THE CAPITAL HOSTED AN OPEN TAEKWONDO TOURNAMENT KYIV OPEN CUP. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN UKRAINE, THE INTERNATIONAL LEVEL KPNP SCORING SYSTEM WAS USED IN POOMSAE COMPETITIONS

            Dear friends!  Open Cup of the city of Kiev in taekwondo (WT) «Kyiv Open Cup» was held on May 22-23 in the sports complex of National Technical University of Ukraine » Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute». The tournament was attended by over 200 athletes from all over Ukraine and a sports delegation from the Republic of Moldova. The event was organized by the public organization » Kiev Taekwondo (WTF) Federation» and the Department of Youth and Sports of the Kiev City Council executive body (Kyiv City State Administration).

54 sets of medals in poomsae (recognized and freestyle) competitions and 39 sets of medals in kyorugi competitions were played.

According to the tournament results the first place was won by the team of Children and Youth Sports School 3, PCSS «Spartak» Kiev, the second place was taken by the Vinnitsa Regional Taekwondo WTF Federation, the third was the team from Odessa.

Competitions were held in the sections of kyorugi (duel competitions) and poomsae (demonstration performances). Athletes in 6 age categories from 6 to 30+ years old fought for the victory:

•         Kids 1 (born in 2015-2014), sports qualification is not lower than 10th Kup,
•         Kids 2 (born in 2013-2012), sports qualification is not lower than 9th Kup,
•         Youths (born in 2011-2010), sports qualification is not lower than 8th Kup,
•         Cadets (born in 2009-2007), sports qualification is not lower than 7th Kup,
•         Juniors (born in 2006-2004), sports qualification is not lower than 6th Kup;
•         Seniors (born in 2003 and earlier), sports qualification is not lower than 5th Kup.

For the first time in Ukraine at the «KYIV OPEN CUP» tournament, competitions in the poomsae section were held using the KPNP (POOMSAE SCORING SYSTEM). This is the official scoring system for taekwondo in the poomsae section, which is recognized by the World Taekwondo.

This system is one of the best in the world, allowing referees to quickly and accurately assess athletes with a minimum investment of time. Today the KPNP refereeing system is actively used at the World Poomsae Championships. With such a competition scoring system, Ukrainian taekwondo athletes, coaches and referees have the opportunity to reach a new level of training, which will allow them to compete with leaders in the world-class poomsae section in the future.

Taekwondo tournament Kyiv Open takes place in the capital for the sixth time. The main goal is to popularize taekwondo as an Olympic sport and philosophy, as well as foster the comprehensive harmonious development and physical improvement of children and youth.

The Kyiv Open taekwondo tournament begins its history in 2013. During its existence, more than 1 500 athletes from all regions of Ukraine, as well as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Belarus took part in the competition. Over the years, the tournament was attended by the President of the National Olympic Committee Sergey Bubka, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Kim Eun-Joong (2013) and the consuls of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ukraine, the President of Samsung Ukraine, representatives of the Kyiv City State Administration, the head coaches of the Spanish Taekwondo Federation.
